The 2nd Shade of Green: Eco-Conscious Light Turquoise
Featuring – That Darn Christmas Tree!
Yes, the Christmas Tree is an iconic image and element of the holiday season, but how do we incorporate it in our homes in an eco-friendly way without going to extremes and planting a tree in the middle of the living room floor?
- If you can, avoid artificial trees. While they are cheaper, inevitably these plastic trees will end up at a landfill.
- Depending on the tree and region, Christmas tree growers use different pesticides and herbicides to keep your Christmas tree looking healthy and bug-free. But then those pesticides will then be in your home for at least a month. If you must buy a real tree, try to find an organic tree dealer near you.
- Or ditch Christmas trees and buy a non-Christmas perennial tree or local plant instead. You can still decorate it festively! Also, build a tradition of tree planting in your backyard or donate the tree to a local school, playground or park.
